Some points to remember when designing:
- Using a huge initial and continuing the word elsewhere produces the word 'theist' - not ideal!
- A design which is nothing but a Q and an A may look beautiful, but doesn't have much of a message. We hope to get some submissions with something to say, whether it's a quote, a cartoon or simply our name or website!
- Using only one colour is best for screen printing - the second colour more than doubles the work involved in printing it up.
- Screen printing requires black and white - no shades of grey. the ink will either go through the screen or it won't.
- A really easy, cheap way of screen printing is to cut a stencil. This is great for a simple design that can afford to look a little hand-done. If you're designing for this kind of technique, you need to avoid 'floaters', which are islands of white in the middle of black. the more of them there are, and the smaller they are, the more difficult the printing gets. Look at a 'stencil' font for tips on how to get around thisby forming bridges linking white islands to mainlands.
